News Update: FDA Votes That Acura Pharmaceutical’s Drug Acurox Does Not Discourage Abuse (ACUR)
Acura Pharmaceutical (NASDAQ:ACUR) said that the FDA voted 19-1 against the company’s drug Acurox, saying that the experimental painkiller designed to discourage misuse is not effective enough to warrant approval. The drug combines oxycodone with the niacin and is designed to cause irritation and flushing if patients take excessive doses. Panelists were unconvinced by the company’s data, which they said did not show strong evidence that niacin discouraged abuse. A final decision is expected by June 30. The FDA is not required to follow the advice of its panelists, though it often does.

Child-protection It is not possible to disable the front passenger’s airbag so a rearward-facing child restraint should not be used in that seating position. The presence of ISOFIX anchorages in the rear outboard seats was not clearly marked. Pedestrian protection The car detects when a pedestrian has been struck and has a mechanism to pop up the bonnet, increasing the gap between the bonnet surface and hard components in the engine bay. The bumper scored maximum points for the protection it offered to pedestrians’ legs.
